Lunch menu clarified, white papers released

by Cornelius Finklestein

Weeks of turmoil and confusion finally resolved as the administration
issues food white papers.

The university-provided lunch menu is posted each week in the dining
hall and on the Frontiersman Catering website. Students and staff
affirm the weekly menu each time they enter the dining hall. Food
items are typically listed categorically in a bullet-point fashion.

Thomas Thompson, Vice Regent of Academic Pursuits, explained, "The
food white papers were adopted by the Board of Trustees over the
summer in order to clarify and elaborate on the university lunch menu.
The food white papers should be seen as an extension of the lunch menu
itself."

Monday, the white papers were made public for the first time.

One of the papers, entitled "Clarification of Condiments," emphasizes
the difference between ketchup and catsup. The unnamed author of the
document also encourages students and staff of Juniperview to remain
vigilent when navigating the vast array of sauces, marinades, spices,
garnishes, and toppings available in today's society.

A second paper strikes the word "robust" from the stated description
of Tuesday's entree, "robust beef stew with buttered bread."

The third and final white paper examines various "grey area" foods and
classifies them as fruits or vegetables (tomatoes receive an extensive
treatment).

"These are complex points, and there is a lot to digest," said
Thompson. "Students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to read the
menu each week and utilize the white papers as a resource to clear up
any confusion."

"I thought the menu was clear enough the first time," said student
Zack Fine. "But more clarification is always a good thing... I guess?"
